044 - Power and Speed - Nail Polish, GT 350R, Car Shopping

Mike, Tom, Crunch, and Tad in studio.

Well we all know car guys are very fashion conscience, and our very own Crunch is no exception.  He talks about the car guy honored tradition of getting his nails done... wait... WHAT?!?!?!

Tad has found some interesting information about the Ford Mustang GT350R, and it sounds like it's a hell of a car for a cheap price.  Carbon Fibre rims, flat crank, over 500 HP N/A, and even if you are a Chevy guy you have to admit it looks good as hell.  Looks like Ford did a great job with this one.

Mike is still rattling around about McLaren cars.  The 650 has come into view, and looks like a pretty slick ride.  He wanted a McLaren MP4-12C (code name Fax Machine for you Top Gear guys) but chose the 427 Corvette instead.

Tom brought up an Engine Labs article that Mike found earlier in the day.  The guys love that site, and lots of very good info on there.  Mike pointed out a photo of a "Bozo Hammer" and the discussion goes from there.

Guest next week, and they are working on some people being lined up.  With the holidays and crazy busy season it's hard to get people on.  Redline Motorsports Howard will return to discuss Mike's C5 build, and Mike has been emailing with Plex Tuning.  They are the people referenced a few shows back about cylinder pressure monitoring.  They are from Greece, so the timing might be tough on that one.

Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com.  Call in number 908 751 0211.  Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways.

043 - Power and Speed - Tad's Subaru Transformation Plans

Mike, Tom, Crunch, and Tad in studio.

Very single pointed subject matter today, correcting years of Tad's Subaru handiwork.

There are always build threads on forums, and the guys think that following and planning projects on cars is a good road to go down.  Mike will be doing his C5, Tom has his 69 Camaro and his Subaru Forester, and now Tad is going to attempt to transform his car back into a nice fast street car. (not that it ever really was)

Here is the basic deal, Tad's car is kind of a mess.  It sat for years, and has a mysterious engine noise.  It's a JDM 2.0 engine with a six speed and some decent driveline parts and it should be a decent starting point.  The build, including mold and moss removal, is discussed.  What's good, what's bad, and what is going to be used.  Tom has a good collection of Subaru stuff as a head start so it's really a great opportunity for Tad to make something out of this mess. Mark Bench calls in to give some heads up on how to go about getting the right ECU in the car.

Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com.  Call in number 908 751 0211.  Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways.

042 - Power and Speed - Blackstone Labs, PRI 2015, Orlando Grudge

Mike, Tom, and Tad in studio.  Crunch could not get out of NYC in time but Jeff Hester happened to stop by the Power and Speed compound.

We all like to know if our stuff is ok.  Mike has said it before, he's nuts.  He hears everything, worries about everything, and a anything to put him at ease sounds like a good idea.  Enter Blackstone Labs.  Mike found these guys through researching his Excursion issues and they do only one thing.  Test oil.  Sound like a nice deal for 28.00 and who wouldn't want advance notice of an impending oil pan failure.

There is a ""Fudd" story here, but it's best to listen to that one.  Tad is off the hook, Fudd is on....

PRI 2015 was attended by Tad as a spectator, Tom for work.  It is a really good show to go to if you are deep into this stuff.  You can find anything from circle track to tractor pull equipment.  The guys will talk more about it, but they needed a few minutes to decompress and get all the pictures posted.

Crunch is one well traveled dude.  Orlando Florida this past weekend for a massive amount of locked in Grudge races.  And as luck would have it, he came home with more "McNuggets" then he left with.  Always a nice thing.  Congrats Young Stang!

041 - Power and Speed - Dyno 3.0, E85-E98, Firearm Sunday

Mike, Tom, Crunch and Tad in studio on a Sunday.?!

Well, as luck would have it, "Hollywood Tom" will be leaving again and unavailable for Monday, so Sunday it is.  That is the beauty of a Podcast, we can always put something down.

Tom finally got the 2JZ dyno session done, and with very good results.  The backstory is this was not just a dyno test of a 2JZ, this was a test of a new Manley piston design.  It seems that lots of crazy shit happens when you get into very high boost levels on these little motors.  The ring seal can go away just to the sheer pressure placed upon everything.  Manley stepped up with a redesign, and the results were better than anticipated.  Listen for the HO numbers vs displacement.  Insane!

The availability of E85 is discussed, and certainly opens up the potential for higher street HP without the worry of fuel requirements.  E98 comes to into the discussion, but Mike brings up the honest truth that Alcohol 100% has been around a very long time, and you can get it at the same place you would purchase E98....Just Sayin....

Crunch is headed to Florida for a race that has been in the works for some time.  This is the Grudge race finally.  66 grudge races are set to go off.  This is a big time event for the money racers out there.  Don't miss this one if you can.

Firearms were also a topic.  We know this is not a subject that everyone is comfortable with.  We also know that firearm guys can be, well, a little out there.  We can all certainly go on record and state that safety is of utmost importance with the guys.  They spent the Sunday afternoon shooting at Mike's 100 yard range.  It was a good time, everyone acted responsibly and everyone had a good time.

PRI is this week, be sure to stop by and see Hollywood Tom at the Manley booth, and PLEASE feel free to have Tom sign autographs.  As we speak, Mike, Fudd, and Tad are contemplating stopping by.

Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com.  Call in number 908 751 0211.  Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways.

040 Power and Speed - Dyno 2.0 Postponed, Shooting, Tads Car

Mike, Tom, Crunch, and Tad in studio.

Everyone made it in tonight, and it's nice to have everyone back again.

Tom was in Florida again for the Toyota engine Manley pistons tests attempt number 2.  For those that did not hear about this, the idea is to test some newer piston designs under very high boost pressure.  Ring seal and piston structure get brought to the forefront when these engines are under extreme pressure.  The engine is on the dyno and going to put through hell to proof these designs.  That is what real world companies do for product R&D.

BUT... there was an issue again.  Electrical gremlins postponed the test, and Hollywood Tom will be on the plane again.  If you see him in Newark airport surrounded by his entourage say hello.

Crunch attended a grudge race involving an old customer of Mike's.  Old describes how long is has been since Mike has seen him and the guys Age.  Maurice, the owner of several grudge race cars over the years is still at it.  God bless the man for doing what he loves at 70 years plus.  He raced a old friend of ours, Tommy Jackson, nephew lined up heads up.  Listen for the details.

Mike and Tom had some firearms shenanigans this weekend.  The guys know it's not the thing for everyone, but it sure is fun.  Mike and Tom discuss the various firearms and binary targets.

Tad's Subaru has a most definite engine noise in Mike's opinion.  This is going to require a deeper look, and due to the design of the Subaru, not easy to poke around while in the car.  Tad will have to actually work, or actually take it someplace to diagnose the legendary JDM powered shitbox.

039 - Power and Speed - Deep in the

Mike, Tom and Tad in studio.  Crunch is stuck in traffic and earns a second demerit.

The show starts of with big news.  Tad's Subaru runs again.  Tad is given the choice of get out of the barrel and admit who fixed it, or prepare for massive abuse.

Mike is the man, and Tad is out of the barrel.... for now.

The big story this week was the street race in "the woods of South Jersey".  Anthony, one of the participants calls in and discusses his night and the goings on at this spot.  This place, according to Anthony, is the best spot in NJ, and the guys would have to agree.  A few things they can say for sure.  It's Dark, it's secluded, and it's very straight.  It was a very cool spot, and the guys will go back again.  WE DO NOT ENDORSE STREET RACING, but spectating an event that is going to happen anyway..... well it is what it is.

On to Street Outlaws.  Chief was involved in a crash with the Crow.  The guys "somehow" saw the footage of the crash, and as you can tell by the pictures, the car is a total loss.

We are working on shirts, so make sure you alert Hollywood of this failure to follow through.

038 - Power and Speed - SEMA 2015

Mike, Tom and Tad in studio.  Crunch is home sick.  Feel better buddy and see you next week.

Tom (Hollywood) returned from a western swing including SEMA 2015.  It's no secret that Tom works for Manley Performance and that allows him to get some info that we would not normally have.  Tom gives some thoughts on Chevy and the new Camaro, Pro Stock, and a few other things.  We had a listener call who was at the show and did not say hello.  We know celebrities can be a little intimidating, but seriously, if you are someplace we are at say hi.  Do not feel bad about going up to a guest either.  The caller went over and talked to Joe Krivickas from Precision Turbo and Engine and managed to get a nice deal.  Trust me, it's good to say hi.

We are working on shirts, so make sure you alert Hollywood of this failure to follow through.

037 - Power and Speed - Tad's Subaru and Pro Stock Speculation

Mike, Crunch, and Tad in studio.  Tom is attending the SEME show in Las Vegas.  We are not sure when (or if) he will ever come back. (it's pretty nice out there)

The good news is Tad's Subaru has moved!  The bad news is not under it's own power.  Tad's Subaru is a mess, plain and simple.  The car needs lots of attention, and Mike is pretty sure he can get it running in no time flat.  How hard can it be?

NASIOC "Proven Power and Performance"  seems to be under Mike's skin for some reason. (it could be the moron who called JR out on the show)  It's easy to understand how trolls on a forum can have so little understanding that they think somehow a fake dyno number will translate into a great MPH at the track.  The IAG Performance Subaru is no joke, and the dyno numbers have nothing to do with it.  You want "Proven" performance, get your car down the track and post a MPH.

NHRA Pro Stock has gone through some shake ups with the rule changes, and there are lots of tidbits of info out there.  How many will show up for the season opener is a good question.  A loyal listener calls and the discussion gets started.

036 - Power and Speed - JRTuned and JJ from IAG

Mike, Tom, and Tad are in studio.  Crunch had a family gathering to attend to, and hey, family first right.  He will be in next week, and for sure they will be dragging him to Etown for the Subaru event.  No 196X Camaros buddy, lets get him a little more modern!

A surprise stop in guest, Jeff "Fireman", that Mike has known for many years takes crunches seat for the evening.  He just picked himself up a new ride a few weeks back.  A Chevy SS as he quickly pointed out.  Over time this car will be going through some nice mods.  Think LSA engine in a SS.  We will follow his progress.

A few episodes back JJ from IAG Performance called in to explain some of the ins and outs of the process of building some bad to the bone WRX platform cars and engines.  There was conversation about getting a particular configuration into the 8.XX second range in the 1/4 mile.  With no way for us to know, it turns out to be a car tuned by Tad's idol, JR Barrios of JRTuned.  JJ and JR give some details about the build, the pass, and honestly after everything was in place, how smoothly it all went.

CJs STI along with efforts from PrimeMotoringIAG Performance, Manley, and JRTuned tuning all came together nicely in a off the trailer pass of 8.909 at 164 MPH!  This is absolutely staggering from a perspective that the basic platform is just like it would be if it were off the showroom floor.

Some people seem to be under the assumption that a dyno number is the end all to be all of performance.  A dyno session can be bumped up, but the laws of physics are inflexible. One thing people should take away from this, including the caller, is that a dyno is a tool to help you achieve a result... the dyno is NOT the result.  After all, we ain't racing dynos... now are we.

034 - Power and Speed - Joe Krivickas from Precision Turbo

Mike, Tom, Crunch, and Tad all in studio tonight.

Tom is headed to Florida tomorrow AM, and it should lead to some cool stories.  2JZ piston testing for max boost stability.  How cool is that, trying to beat stuff up!  Manley is very serious about their piston business, and this proves it.  After the testing Tom is heading to the Florida 2K race.  Should be a nice week for Tom to gather some stories for the show.

Crunch is headed to Fayettville on the 16-17th of October for the 0Joe Grey and Larry T grudge final.  Big surprises, he is the judge for the rib contest.

Tad... well... has nothing.

Mike had a zero of a weekend.  His basement flooded, no car stuff over the weekend. He did get a kick out of Steve Jackson's video and Facebook page.  Funny stuff.

BUT, for sure some, if not all, of the guys will be at Englishtown this weekend for the Subaru event.  Look for Mike in a yellow 427, and be sure to ask whats up with yellow.

The people that have written in have requested more guests from the industry, and we working on lining them up.  The guys have some very good contacts in the industry.  So you asked, we have a great guy from a great manufacturer.  Joe Krivickas from Precision Turbo and Engine.  With trade shows on the way, we find out more about what Precision Turbo and Engine is up to for 2016.  Joe shares some insights on competition, rules, and a surprising area of new business.

Live again next week Monday night at 7:00 PM EST on Mixlr.com.  Call in number 908 751 0211.  Live callers welcome, and this will be the line for giveaways.
